Summary
Degradation of the nitrogen fraction in sugar beet vinasse during continuous acidogenesis was studied. The total nitrogen content in the vinasse was approximately 4 g·L−1, with only traces of ammonia nitrogen. During acidogenesis N-NH4 + increased proportionately to the breakdown of betaine and amino acids.
