Abstract
Stimulated Raman scattering has been experimentally studied by using the process of two-step ionization of a Na atomic beam. A dip that is due to a resonance at a combination frequency corresponding to the forbidden 3S–4S transition of a Na atom was observed in the signal of nonresonant photoionization when two laser frequencies λ1=284.5 nm and λ2=1.06 μm were overlapped.
