Abstract
We investigate the early stages of oxidation of thin Cu films on glass substrates exposed to cw Ar+ laser irradiation in air. We conclude that oxidation, which proceeds at rates up to μm/s, is due only to the heating effect of the laser beam and that, under our experimental conditions, the rate limiting step is a phase boundary reaction with Q=0.65 eV.
