Summary
Small amounts of sodium sulphite in sodium metabisulphite can be determined by reaction with a formaldehyde solution. Each gram ion sulphite produces one gram ion hydroxyl, which can be titrated with hydrochloric acid. The method yields good results and is within wide limits independent of the concentration and of the excess of formaldehyde reagent. A description of the analytical procedure is given.
