Summary
The suitability of various commercial pararosaniline reagents for the SO2 determination by the West and Gaeke method was studied. The absorption spectra of the pararosaniline reagents in neutral and hydrochloric solutions, and the spectra of the dyestuffs developed by formaldehyde, dichlorosulphitomercurate and hydrochloric pararosaniline solution were compared. In spite of different behaviour in hydrochloric solution, the pararosaniline reagents studied were suitable for the SO2 determination. The importance of a control of pararosaniline reagents and the influence of dyestuff developing time for the reproducibility of results were pointed out.
