Summary
A simple method for the determination of clenbuterol is described. It is extracted from the sample at pH ∼ 3 and then at pH ∼ 11, followed by partitioning the analyte into water at pH ∼ 3 and reextraction into ethyl acetate at pH ∼ 9. Clenbuterol is oxidized with KMnO4 to „clenbuteron“ for GC-determination. Recoveries for 0.01– 1.0 mg/kg were between 70% and 110% (standard deviation ±14%, n = 18).
