Abstract
Naphtho[2,3-e]indole-4,9-dione and naphtho[2,3-f]indole-5,10-dione were synthesized by the Friedel-Crafts reaction from phthalic anhydride and N-acetylindoline and by the Fischer reaction by cyclization of 2-anthraquinonyl hydrazone of ethyl pyruvate.
