Abstract
We propose an optically pumped laser which would operate in the vacuum ultraviolet region of the spectrum with pulse energies in the millijoule range. The proposed laser is expected to oscillate on 8–10 transitions with wavelengths between 158 nm and 242 nm. The results of an absorption experiment and a kinetic model are used to evaluate the prospects for such a laser.
