Abstract
This paper analyzes the discussion about the immaterial (K.K. Kolin) and ambivalent (A.V. Sokolov) natures of information and appropriate ways of constructing its philosophical concept. It is suggested that information be considered as a generalizing concept and scientific abstraction that designates an information process. The possibility of developing a philosophical concept of information based on the theory of an information process is substantiated. The most general theoretical and methodological assumptions of the theory of an information process are expounded.
