Abstract
Using the mathematical apparatus of catastrophe theory, the model of material behavior during its degradation is proposed. It is considered what the smallest number of parameters is with which the studied systems can be described, how order and chaos alternate in the space of the parameters that have been taken for use, and how the order of the material microstructure at various scale levels becomes complicated.
