Job Creation, Public Cost and the Distributive Profile of Tax Allowances for Household Services in France

  • Chapter
The Political Economy of Household Services in Europe

Part of the book series: Work and Welfare in Europe ((RECOWE))

Abstract

Many European countries have promoted the development of household services in order to foster employment, particularly among the least skilled. France has been a pioneer in this field (Chapter 2) and is also the country where public support of household services has been the most consequential. Besides job creation, France’s policy has also explicitly aimed at responding to social needs, by subsidising the consumption of child- and eldercare home services.
