Abstract
Throughout the nineteenth century, the increasingly dominant economic and military hegemonic power of Western European nations and the US subjugated ever more areas and societies of the world. From this globalizing dynamic a paradoxical effect developed: assimilating and homogenizing forces of globalization and strong anti-globalization emotions and movements mutually promoted each other.
