Abstract
Securing energy for the continuation of life is one of the most important problems of today’s world. The declining sources of fossil-based energy, especially crude petroleum, have necessitated the production and use of alternative sources of energy. After the Second World War, the production of nuclear energy received the attention of many countries, so that by 2010, 441 nuclear power plants with 375-gigawatt electricity-producing capacity were active in 30 countries. Moreover, in 15 countries, 66 nuclear power plants with 63 gigawatts of capacity are under construction (IAEA 2011).
