Abstract
The concept of managerial resources and capabilities has helped to explain when management can constitute a valuable firm resource, how management can become such a resource and how management can affect competitive advantage. Managerial resources consist of human capital, social capital, and cognition of top management, other managers throughout an organization and boards of directors. Incentives are key to the deployment of managerial resources. Incentives to managers to create rents from their resources can come in such forms as salary, stock options and grants, and bonuses for superior performance.
