Abstract
In recent years, Australia has embarked on significant reform of its national sporting system following a major review of sport in Australia that took place in 2009.
Recognising the need for a more responsible and connected national network, new policy is guiding the Australian sport system from what was essentially a 30-year-old model of programmes both developed and delivered by the government, to a more holistic and collaborative model with an agreed national vision for sport and clear roles and responsibilities for key actors.
The Australian government is leading a new era of integrated sports policy development that has given rise to a ‘sport-run, government-supported’ approach to achieving national sporting objectives from the grassroots community level to high-performance sport.
