Abstract
This chapter explores telic eschatology, which is an eschatology that focuses on God’s purpose of creation. It proposes a theological basis for people in Myanmar to live and serve in their country amidst conflicts and uncertainties. Telic eschatology is future-oriented but not escapist, engaging with the present and stewarding God’s world. Its chief difference from other kinds of hope is that the object hoped for is God, who is actively working to bring creation to its divinely intended goal. The chapter proposes practical ways that telic eschatology can speak to different groups in Myanmar, providing support, correction, challenge, encouragement, and prophetic critique. The chapter is divided into four sections: highlights from the theology of hope, critical reflection on Moltmann’s hope, theological articulation of telic eschatology, and telic eschatology in the context of Myanmar. Overall, the chapter presents a hopeful and constructive vision for living and serving in a complex and challenging world.
