Abstract
Globalization and Industrial Revolutions have not only nourished new opportunities and challenges but also caused unnecessary disruption and polarization within and between countries and society. In this case, the economic competition is fiercer than ever before in the modern world. As a result, for barrier-free import and export, a firm must guarantee that it provides consumers with a high-quality product selection to remain up with its competitors. Companies can ensure the quality of deliveries by completing rigorous quality checks ahead of time, and it can only be accomplished with a robust national Quality Infrastructure (QI). Most of the nations have their own QI system, which supports government policy goals in industrial development, federal trade rules and control, food safety, efficient use of natural and human resources, health, the environment and climate change, etc. Several countries having highly strong QI have their industrial and economic growth healthy. On the other hand, some countries lack the infrastructure required to satisfy quality standards, posing concerns and challenges in today’s competitive world. As a result, the QI plays a critical role in social, strategic, and industrial progress of any country. This chapter provides an overview of the institutional framework of QI with National and International perspectives. The study also describes the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis of the QI. Further, the Global Quality Infrastructure Index (GQII) has been updated with the inclusion of current data up to Dec 31, 2021, and summarized for the member states (63 countries) of the International Bureau of Weights and Measure (BIPM). Hopefully, this study would benefit government agencies, industry, academia, and various organizations as a reference bank for future decisions and policymaking connected to robust QI.
