Abstract
Key loggers are a significant threat to cyber security and privacy worldwide. Though they are useful in some scenarios, they do more harm than good. Companies put key loggers in their systems, to keep an eye on the working of their employees. Most often, attackers send key loggers to victims to get sensitive information like the id, password, credit card details, etc. The antivirus identifies these key loggers in most scenarios, but new key loggers are implemented every day and modern techniques to escape antivirus. In this paper, some methods have been discussed to detect a key logger if installed in the system and also to render the key logger useless even if present in the system. Also, it shows a novel technique of detection and removal of key logger. The approach is to filter and sort out those processes from the Windows Process Explorer, which shows maximum tendencies of being malicious. Then, most malicious application/processes execution is stopped, and their list is presented to user. User has the choice to let them remain in the system or discard them.
