Abstract

Evacuation planning is a complex process that requires detailed planning with multiple stages and phases. The main objective of this report is to propose an application of operational research in an evacuation planning problem specifically, focusing on the case the urban building evacuation crises. It first provides a comprehensive overview on how to achieve a systematic, effective and efficient planning framework followed by an analysis of an evacuation planning problem in an urban building complex. It models the movement of people through applying the mathematical model of integer programming and provides a sensitivity and answer report for the same. The drawbacks and challenges of the proposed mathematical problem are discussed as well.
