Abstract

Underwater archaeology was initiated in China in 1987, this chapter briefly review the ancient Chinese shipwrecks discovered by field archaeology 30 years ahead, as well as those found by underwater archaeology in the recent 30 years. The shipwrecks found in the surrounding foreign waters will also be touched. On this basis, this chapter will outline the current research on three major issues, including ancient shipbuilding history, ancient shipping routes and Maritime Silk Road, ship cargo and export ceramics. It is the most recent and brief review of the archaeological discoveries and research on shipwrecks in China.
