Abstract

This chapter deals with the positions of seminal Jewish philosophers on the relation between Judaism and the State of Israel. It describes the views of Martin Buber (1878–1965), Emmanuel Levinas (1906–1995), and Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907–1972) and briefly mentions other Jewish philosophers, who reflected upon Zion such as Moses Hess, Ahad Ha’am, A.D. Gordon, Rav Kook, Hermann Cohen, Franz Rosenzweig, Yeshayahu Leibowitz, André Neher, and Éliane Amado Levy-Valensi.
