Abstract

In modern power system, the electricity demand is increasing with a huge rate due to the modernization of electrical equipment, but simultaneously the power generation is not increasing with that rate. So, there is a mismatch between the electricity demand and generation, which can produce the imbalance in the system. On the other hand, due to the restrictions in the installation of new transmission lines, there is a possibility of system congestion in the electrical network. There are some solutions for solving the said problem. The installation of renewable energy sources can minimize the system imbalance by supplying some extra power to the grid, whereas Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices can curtail the transmission line congestion. Renewable energy integration can also minimize the line congestion by supplying the additional power locally to the grid. So, power flow in the transmission lines can reduce after the renewable energy integration in the system. The Energy Audit plays a vital role before the placement of renewable energy sources in any power system. In this paper, a clear idea about the energy audit and the economic benefits of solar installation are discussed briefly. For checking the usefulness of the energy audit, an Institute (Siliguri Institute of Technology) has been considered for the case study.
