Abstract
The importance of energy and its related issues signifies worldwide by its dedication as the seventh sustainable development goal (SDG). Energy and its involved issues encompass social, economic, and environmental aspects in society. Also, energy efficiency (EE) is one of the main elements of the energy market in the world. With the above issues in mind and considering increasing demand for energy in the future, a major transition in the energy sector is needed. Fortunately, there are many opportunities to help this transition. The most important ones can be counted as deployment and integration of energy efficiency and renewable energy resources. In this research, applying EE technologies and strategies in the 11th district of Kabul city in residential sector is studied and analyzed. Lighting systems, hot water, small electric appliance, and heating and cooling in residential buildings are investigated, and specific sustainable solutions are proposed. Application of the proposed strategies and solutions can save up to 50% energy consumption with a short payback period of around three years. In addition to other economic benefits and environmental considerations, this research proposes a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution that contributes towards sustainability of grid as well as ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern use of energy supply.
