Abstract
The daily reality of social studies instruction in schools is dominated by what I have called the “grammar of social studies” meaning that most of our writing and research and a good deal of our teaching has little or no impact on actual classrooms. Most of us, as social studies educators and scholars, hope that our work makes a difference in schools.
