Zusammenfassung

In Vita activa oder vom tätigen Leben Hannah Arendt critically analyzed the human condition in the modern world. One of her most important points of departure is the crisis that shook the foundations of knowledge in modern science and philosophy. By explaining the changes that the antique term “politics” underwent in the modern era, she fundamentally questions what politics is or might be. Today, when crisis multiply, affecting in particular the humanities, Arendt’s thoughts appear surprisingly on topic. In this paper, they serve as a basis for dealing with the question of how a modified understanding of “politics” might provide a framework for understanding art, music and musicology as political, or at least, for finding some relations between these often strictly separated fields.
