Zusammenfassung
Genetische degenerative Krankheiten des Gehirns können pathogenetisch und klinisch eingeteilt werden in solche vorwiegend der grauen oder der weißen Gehirnsubstanz, wobei diese Trennung nicht absolut ist. Degeneration der Neuronen in der grauen Substanz führt initial hauptsächlich zu Demenz und Epilepsie, manchmal wegen Befall der Netzhaut auch zu Visusverlust. Viele dieser Krankheiten sind lysosomale Speicherkrankheiten. Ihr wesentliches klinisches Kennzeichen ist die Progredienz der Symptome, die sehr langsam sein kann. Besonders ist auf das Erkrankungsalter zu achten, da die Krankheiten als infantile, spätinfantile oder juvenile Formen auftreten können.
