Zusammenfassung
Dieses Kapitel beginnt mit der Betrachtung des Selbstkonzeptes als kognitiv-deskriptive Komponente des Selbst. Nach der Beschreibung von Modellen, die Aufschluss über die Struktur, den Aufbau sowie die Entwicklung des Selbstkonzeptes geben sollen, wird auf die Entwicklung des Selbstkonzeptes im Jugendalter eingegangen. Anschließend wird der Selbstwert als affektiv-evaluative Komponente des Selbst in den Blick genommen. Neben der Entwicklungslinie des Selbstwertes werden auch Geschlechtsunterschiede im Jugendalter thematisiert. Im darauffolgenden anwendungsbezogenen Teil wird das jugendliche Selbst im Zusammenhang mit verschiedenen Entwicklungsfolgen betrachtet, wie z. B. Zusammenhänge von Selbstkonzept und Leistung oder von Selbstwert und Gesundheit. Abschließend werden die Prozesse des Selbst thematisiert, welche die selbstbezogenen Wissensstrukturen und Selbstbewertungen konstruieren, stabilisieren und modifizieren.
