Zusammenfassung
„Wasser, Luft und Licht als Rohstoff“ – das ist das Grundprinzip sowohl der biologischen als auch der Künstlichen Photosynthese. Auf eine naturgeschichtliche Einführung in die Entwicklung der Photosynthese folgt im dritten Kapitel eine Beschreibung der chemischen Schlüsselprozesse. Hieraus leiten sich die Grundprinzipien der Künstlichen Photosynthese ab. Es folgt ein Überblick über die Komplexität des biologischen Systems und ein Glanzlicht der aktuellen Forschung zur biologischen Solarenergienutzung. Neben die Beschreibung der faszinierenden biologischen Organismen tritt eine Diskussion ihrer „Defizite“ – aus einer anthropozentrischen nutzungsorientierten Perspektive. Hierzu wird die für technische Systeme wichtige Größe der Effizienz („solar energy conversion efficiency“) eingeführt und diskutiert.
