Zusammenfassung
Turboverdichter (auch Turbokompressoren genannt) sind Strömungsarbeitsmaschinen zur Verdichtung von Gasen. Als Element der Energieübertragung auf das Gas dient das beschaufelte, kontinuierlich durchströmte Laufrad. Druck, Temperatur und Geschwindigkeit des Gases sind nach dem Verlassen des Laufrads größer als am Eintritt. Das dem rotierenden Laufrad nachgeschaltete stehende Leitteil sorgt für weitere Druck‐ und Temperaturerhöhung durch Verzögerung des Gases (s. R1).
Die Unterteilung in Axial‐ und Radialverdichter erfolgt anhand der Hauptströmungsrichtung in der Meridianebene des Laufrads, d. h. einer Ebene, die die Drehachse enthält. Diese für den Durchsatz maßgebende Meridianströmung verläuft bei Axialverdichtern während der Energieübertragung im Wesentlichen axial, bei Radialverdichtern im Wesentlichen radial von innen nach außen. Gelegentlich trifft man auch Mischbauarten an (sog. Diagonalverdichter). Eine andere Unterteilung in Verdichter und Ventilatoren basiert auf der Höhe der spezifischen Verdichtungsarbeit. Beim Ventilator bleibt sie vergleichsweise gering, so dass keine nennenswerten Dichte‐ und Temperaturänderungen auftreten. Der Übergang zum Verdichter ist jedoch fließend.
