Zusammenfassung

Die Zahl alter Menschen, und damit die Zahl alter Patienten mit Krebserkrankungen, wird weiter zunehmen. Da Altern ein heterogener Prozess ist, gilt es die individuellen Defizite und Ressourcen eines Patienten in einem strukturierten Prozess, dem geriatrischen Assessment, zu erfassen. Ziel ist es, eine der individuellen Situation Rechnung tragende Therapieplanung zu ermöglichen. Ein therapeutischer Nihilismus aufgrund des Alters ist nicht gerechtfertigt. Das Kapitel beschreibt die mit dem Altern assoziierten zusätzlichen Probleme und Herausforderungen in der Behandlung von Krebserkrankungen. Dargestellt werden auch die etablierten Assessment-Instrumente, die der Erfassung der Situation und der entsprechenden Planung der Versorgung dienen.
