Zusammenfassung
Hohe Anforderungen, Hindernisse bei der Zielerreichung sowie mangelnde Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten sind heute kennzeichnend für den Arbeitsalltag vieler Erwerbstätiger. Dieses Kapitel gibt hierzu einen Überblick und zeigt den Zusammenhang solcher Arbeitsbedingungen mit wichtigen Gesundheitsindikatoren und daraus resultierenden Produktivitätsverlusten auf. Den Kosten des Stresses wird eine Nutzenkalkulation von stressreduzierenden Interventionen gegenübergestellt. Das Kapitel gibt einen Einblick in erfolgreiche Interventionsmöglichkeiten und schließt mit einem Ausblick auf stressrelevante Herausforderungen einer sich schnell wandelnden Arbeitswelt.

Bis heute existiert keine allgemein gültige Definition von Präsentismus. In wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten haben sich zwei Hauptstränge zum Präsentismus etabliert, die den Begriff Präsentismus folgendermaßen definieren: [1] Das Verhalten, dass Mitarbeiter trotz Krankheit zur Arbeit gehen, [2] Dass Mitarbeiter durch gesundheitliche Beschwerden – vor allem chronische Erkrankungen – in ihrer Arbeitsproduktivität eingeschränkt sind (Steinke und Badura 2011).

Der Review von Steinke und Badura (2011) bietet einen strukturierten Überblick über die vorhandene Literatur zum Thema Präsentismus. Darin werden unter anderem auch die konzeptionellen Grundlagen sowie die bestehenden Messinstrumente vorgestellt und diskutiert. Studien, welche den WPAI oder ein vergleichbares Instrument zur Messung von Präsentismus anwenden, kommen zu einem vergleichbaren Resultat, wonach der prozentuale Präsentismus den prozentualen Absentismus um das Zwei- bis Dreifache übersteigt.
