Zusammenfassung
Schmerz hat eine wichtige Warnfunktion im Körper. An der Nozizeption sind Nozizeptoren, sensorische Nervenfasern und zentrale Strukturen beteiligt, deren Aufbau und Funktion erklärt werden. Mechanismen der neurogenen Entzündung sowie des neuropathischen Schmerzes werden ebenso erläutert wie zentrale Sensibilisierungsprozesse. Zentrale und periphere Kontrollmechanismen der Nozizeption spielen eine wichtige Rolle für das Schmerzempfinden und eine mögliche Chronifizierung.
