Corticosteroide werden überwiegend als Glucocorticoide zur Entzündungshemmung und Immunsuppression eingesetzt, während die Hormonsubstitution mit dem Nebennierenrindenhormon Cortisol und dem Mineralocorticoid Fludrocortison nur einen kleinen Teil der Verordnungen (3%) betrifft.
