Zusammenfassung
In der Politikwissenschaft führten das Ende des Ost-West-Konflikts und die zunehmende Globalisierung der Weltwirtschaft in den 1990er Jahren zu einem verstärkten Interesse an den Aktivitäten transnationaler Konzerne. Als zentrale Akteure der Globalisierung wurden sie zunächst eher kritisch betrachtet. Dies wurde auch durch die zunehmenden zivilgesellschaftlichen Aktivitäten gefördert, die die Verletzung staatlich anerkannter Normen wie Menschenrechte, Arbeitnehmer- und Umweltschutz in der unternehmerischen Wertschöpfungskette anprangerten.
