Zusammenfassung
Als wissenschaftliche Disziplin hat sich Interkulturelle Kommunikation in Deutschland in den 1990er Jahren entwickelt. Der Anstoß für diese Entwicklung kam von den ökonomischen und gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen, die sich mit Globalisierung und Multikulturalisierung ergeben hatten. Dabei wurde anfangs, in Anlehnung an die US-amerikanische Interkulturelle Kommunikation, insbesondere auch auf Ansätze der klassischen Kulturanthropologie zurückgegriffen. Die Kritik an diesen Ansätzen sowie die Veränderungen der gesellschaftlichen und diskursiven Rahmenbedingungen seit den 1990er Jahren führten zu vielfältigen Weiterentwicklungen des interdisziplinären Fachs Interkulturelle Kommunikation. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden Entwicklungslinien skizziert und zentrale Ansätze und Neuorientierungen des Fachs Interkulturelle Kommunikation diskutiert.
