Zusammenfassung
Familienunternehmen gelten international, und insbesondere auch im deutschsprachigen Raum, als das Rückgrat vieler Volkswirtschaften: Familienunternehmen erbringen in vielen Ländern große Teile der nationalen Wirtschaftsleistung, beschäftigen häufig den Großteil der Arbeitnehmer in einem Land und stellen allgemein die Mehrheit aller Unternehmen in vielen Ländern. Trotz dieser gesamtwirtschaftlichen Relevanz von Familienunternehmen schaffen es viele individuelle Familienunternehmen nicht, eines der, wenn nicht das, dominierende Ziel in derlei Unternehmen zu erreichen – nämlich das weitere Bestehen des Unternehmens als Familienunternehmen über Generationen hinweg sicherzustellen. So gibt es etwa Schätzungen, dass es nur 30 % der Familienunternehmen in die zweite Generation „schaffen“ und nur 10–15 % in die dritte Generation.

Alternativ wäre denkbar, dass für die Erlangung eines Verständnisses der Professionalisierung von Controlling in Familienunternehmen auch auf Modelle der allgemeinen Professionalisierung des Controllings zurückgegriffen werden würde. Derlei allgemeine Modelle der ControllingProfessionalisierung fehlen in der internationalen Literatur jedoch weitgehend. Zwar existieren in der Literatur Messmodelle für die Professionalität bzw. die Professionalisierung einzelner Accountants (vgl. z. B. Adler/Liyanarachchi (im Druck), S. 2 ff.), jedoch eben nicht für die Professionalisierung von Accounting- oder Controlling-Systemen. In der deutschsprachigen Literatur gibt es unterdessen vereinzelte Arbeiten zur Professionalisierung des Controllings. Jedoch beziehen sich diese auf sehr spezielle Kontexte wie etwa Controlling in der Behindertenhilfe (Vaudt/Rasche (2011)) oder in Krankenkassen (Schlösser/Schreyögg (2005)) oder verzichten auf eine explizite Konzeptionierung von „Professionalisierung“ (Diehm (2017); Pampel (2019)), sodass derlei Arbeiten nicht unmittelbar für den vorliegenden Beitrag herangezogen werden können.
