Abstract
Many employees in the service sector deal with indoor-navigation related challenges on a daily basis. Nurses need to adapt their routes in order to react to sudden requests of patients, while maintenance workers often need to find machines on unknown premises. This leads to stress and inefficient routing decisions. Using the design science research method, we built an augmented reality application for the Microsoft HoloLens, which is capable of navigating users within buildings and displays routing information as augmented virtual arrows at critical way points. In a user study (n = 20) we show that the virtual arrows require less mental demand than a classic 2D view, known from systems like Google Maps or TomTom.
