Zusammenfassung

Der vorliegende Beitrag befasst sich mit der wissenschaftlichen Fachliteratur zur Situation junger Inhaftierter im größten und bevölkerungsreichsten Land Lateinamerikas und nimmt diesbezüglich zugleich eine interkulturelle Vergleichsperspektive ein. Die (Rechts-)Wirklichkeit in Brasilien steht zum einen verglichen mit Deutschland in vielerlei Hinsicht in einer nahezu antagonistischen Position: Während sich die brasilianischen Haftanstalten hinsichtlich vieler Aspekte in einem problematischen Zustand befinden, darunter insbesondere Überbelegung und mangelnde Infrastruktur, ist die Situation in Deutschland durch deutlich günstigere Bedingungen und im internationalen Vergleich vergleichsweise wenige Inhaftierte gekennzeichnet. Zum anderen weisen weitere Vergleichsaspekte, wenn auch in unterschiedlichem Ausmaß, Gemeinsamkeiten auf, etwa die Tatsache, dass die Mehrheit von Inhaftierten männlich ist, die häufigsten Delikte Diebstahl und Drogenhandel ausmachen sowie insgesamt eine Unterbesetzung mit Fachpersonal zu verzeichnen ist.
