Zusammenfassung
Europawahlen werden durchgehend als second-order-elections und Elitenwahlen wahrgenommen und in fast allen Mitgliedstaaten sind sie von relativ niedriger Wahlbeteiligung geprägt. Gleichzeitig geht mit niedrigerer Wahlbeteiligung meist auch stärkere soziale Verzerrung einher. Der Beitrag zeigt für deutsche und europäische Großstädte, dass auch bei der Europawahl 2019 eine erhebliche soziale Verzerrung in der Wahlbeteiligung vorliegt. Im Vergleich zu nationalen Hauptwahlen, bleibt die Auswirkung der sozialen Verzerrung auf die Wahlbeteiligung jedoch bemerkenswert gleich.
