Zusammenfassung

Die Rede von der Krise der Demokratie ist so alt wie diese selbst. Von der antiken politischen Philosophie Griechenlands bis hin zur neomarxistischen Soziologie und der konservativen Politikwissenschaft der frühen siebziger Jahre blieb die Krise politischer Regime ein Dauerthema. Nach der Jahrtausendwende verstärkte sich erneut der Krisendiskurs über die Demokratie. Umso mehr verwundert es, dass zwar die Demokratie immer wieder definiert, ihre Krise aber im Jargon oder bestenfalls in der politischen Theorie diskutiert wurde. Bis heute ist aber die theoretische wie empirische Frage ungelöst, wann eine Krise beginnt und wann sie endet.
