Zusammenfassung
Unzufriedenheit und verwandte Probleme können zur Entwicklung von Innovationen führen, da sie wirtschaftliche Potenziale nutzen. Trotzdessen sollte die Gestaltung innovativer Lösungen nicht dort aufhören, wo kommerzieller Profit endet, sondern sich weiterentwickeln um das Wohlergehen der Gesellschaft zu verbessern. Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien (IKT) sind jede Software für Informations- oder Kommunikationsgeräte, wie beispielsweise Fernseher, Telefone, Computer, Netzwerkhard- sowie -software – oder auch Satellitensysteme (Cater-Steel and Cater. Women in engineering, science and technology: education and career challenges. Engineering Science Reference, IGI Global, Hershey, New York, 2010). IKT werden als die wichtigsten Einflussfaktoren für innovative Verbesserungen gesehen (Mulgan et al. Social innovation. What it is, why it matters and how it can be accelerated. Working Paper, Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, printed by The Basingstoke Press, 2007; Lauriks et al. Ageing Res Rev 6(3):223–246, 2007). Insbesondere während der letzten Dekade haben IKT unsere Möglichkeiten miteinander zu kommunizieren, informieren und interagieren massiv verändert: Heutzutage sind Sofortnachrichtenservices (z. B. WhatsApp, Wechat) sowie soziale Netzwerke (z. B. Facebook, Xing, LinkedIn) nicht mehr aus unserem Alltag wegzudenken. Obwohl deutlich wird, dass IKT-Lösungen ein großes Potenzial bergen, einige Probleme der heutigen Zeit zu lösen (Astell et al. Interact Comput 22(4):267–275, 2010; Ienca et al. Sci Eng Ethics 24(4):1035–1055, 2017; Pollack Intelligent assistive technology: the present and the future. In: Conati C, McCoy K, Paliouras G (eds) User modeling 2007, proceedings. Lecture notes in artificial intelligence, vol 4511, pp 5–6, 2007), fehlt ein strukturierter Überblick, welcher für zukünftige Entwicklungen als Basis dienen könnte. Daher ist das Ziel dieser Arbeit, einen detaillierteren Blick darauf zu werfen, wie IK-Technologien zum Wohlergehen einer Gesellschaft beitragen kann, indem innovative Lösungen für Demenzpatienten gefunden werden. Dies wird angestrebt durch Fallstudien und konkrete Beispiele. Es wird der methodologische Ansatz nach Lauriks et al. (Ageing Res Rev 6(3):223–246, 2007) verwendet, welcher Beispiele anhand des wissenschaftlichen Hintergrunds oder der Innovationsfähigkeit im Forschungsfeld auswählt.
Abstract
At first glance there might not be a strong connection between technical innovations and social and or ecological sustainability. But taking a closer look, especially advances in information and communication technology (ICT) can lead to innovations solving societal problems. These technology-based sustainability innovations appear in various areas, e.g., health, education, and mobility and can be based on different technical approaches, e.g., software, mobile apps, blogs, or games. One major challenge for our society today is the care and cure of an increasing number of age related diseases. Dementia for example is a growing issue associated with memory and language loss and less cognitive abilities. In the developed world the life expectancy raises and scholars estimate that the numbers of dementia patients will also expand dramatically. Thus, the aim of this paper is to connect this certain issue with the potential that ICT shows for solving it. While ICT solutions are said to have great potential to generate societal impact, little is known about recently developed ICT related innovations solving dementia related problems. Our paper provides a structured overview of how ICT can be used and delivers exemplary cases currently appearing in research and practice.
