Zusammenfassung
Dieser Artikel diskutiert die optimale Ausgestaltung der Schuldenprävention in einer bargeldlosen Gesellschaft. Basierend auf den Fakten zum Bargeldgebrauch in den DACH-Ländern und den USA wird die Eintretenswahrscheinlichkeit einer bargeldlosen Gesellschaft eingeschätzt und vor dem Hintergrund der Determinanten des individuellen Zahlungsverhaltens eine Rangliste der Schuldeninzidenz der gängigsten Zahlungsmittel am point-of-sale (POS) erstellt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass eine bargeldlose Wirtschaft in den untersuchten Ländern ohne Bargeldrepression unwahrscheinlich ist. Anhand der Ausprägung der Transparenz der Zahlung, des «Schmerz des Bezahlens» und der Verknüpfung der Zahlung mit dem Konsum resultiert für die gängigsten Zahlungsmethoden am POS in aufsteigender Form zum Schuldenmachen folgende Rangliste der Schuldeninzidenz: 1) Bargeld, 2) Geschenkkarten/Gutscheine, 3) Prepaidkarten, 4) Debitkarten, 5) Kreditkarten und 6) mobile payment. Das Sparverhalten lässt sich in einer bargeldlosen Gesellschaft hauptsächlich mit innovativen (Spar-)Produkten optimieren.
