Zusammenfassung
Die venezianischen Theater waren spätestens seit dem frühen 18. Jahrhundert jedermann zugänglich, für bestimmte Berufsgruppen sogar bei freiem Eintritt. Dies belegen zahlreiche Berichte von Reisenden, Aussagen von Theaterverantwortlichen sowie für das venezianische Überwachungssystem typische Denunziationsschreiben, in denen z. B. über Ausschreitungen im Theater berichtet wird. Bereits Hellmuth Christan Wolff wies in seiner Publikation Die venezianische Oper in der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts (Berlin 1937) auf die besondere Rolle der Gondolieri als Theaterpublikum hin, deren exaltiertes Verhalten im Theater zur Touristenattraktion wurde und jugendlichen Patriziern als Rollenvorbild diente.
