Zusammenfassung
Filme als Medium der Populärkultur sind wichtige Instanzen der Reflexion moderner Arbeits- und Organisationsverhältnisse und nach wie vor prägend für unser Verständnis von Organisation. Mithilfe von Anleihen aus der multimodalen Diskursanalyse und der Filmsemiotik untersucht der Beitrag die populärkulturelle Ästhetisierung der Finanzmärkte und den Zusammenhang von Filmästhetik und Kritik anhand des Films „The Wolf of Wall Street“. Die Analyse widmet sich hierbei der Repräsentation des Arbeitsplatzes, von Finanzinstrumenten und -produkten sowie der Erzeugung der „Faszination Wall Street“. Die Ästhetisierung der Finanzmärkte in „The Wolf of Wall Street“ lassen diese als großes, undurchschaubares Spiel erscheinen, dessen effektiver Inhalt der Exzess und die Gier sind. Die Rezipienten werden hierbei als Komplizen dieses Spiels adressiert und Kritik regrediert zu einem augenzwinkernden Bescheid wissen ob der Irrationalität des Systems.
