Zusammenfassung
Geschlecht ist zunächst nichts anderes als ein Kriterium der Einteilung der Bevölkerung in weibliche und männliche Individuen. In allen uns bekannten Gesellschaften ist das Geschlecht, vergleichbar dem Alter, eine mit der Geburt festliegende Dimension sozialer Strukturierung, damit auch ein Bezugspunkt für die Zuweisung von sozialem Status.
