Zusammenfassung
Heute gilt die vor 50 Jahren von Glaser und Strauss entwickelte Grounded-Theory-Methodologie (GTM) weit über die Soziologie hinaus als einer der prominentesten Ansätze in der qualitativen Forschung. In dem Beitrag wird zunächst die Geschichte der GTM – von den Gründervätern über die sog. „Second Generation“ bis hin zu neueren Entwicklungen – skizziert. Im Anschluss werden mit „Theoretical Sampling“, „All is Data“ sowie Ausführungen zum Kodieren und Memoschreiben die Essentials der GTM charakterisiert, die trotz aller Diversität als deren Grundbestand gelten können.
Gegenüber dem Beitrag in der ersten Auflage handelt es sich hier um einen komplett neu ausgerichteten Artikel, bei dem wir uns für den Aufbau weitgehend an einem Text im Oxford-Handbook (Ruppel und Mey 2017) orientiert haben. Wir bedanken uns bei Paul Sebastian Ruppel, mit dem wir seit Jahren Workshops zur „Grounded-Theory-Methodologie“ geben und der auch am „Grounded-Theory-Reader“ (Mey und Mruck 2011a) mitgewirkt hat.

Wir unterscheiden zwischen der Grounded-Theory-Methodologie (GTM) als dem Forschungsstil und den darin eingelagerten methodischen Schritte auf der einen Seite und der Grounded Theory (GT) als dem Resultat einer GTM-Studie auf der anderen Seite.
