Zusammenfassung
Der Begriff der Zivilgesellschaft und ihre Bezüge zur Demokratie variieren. Um die Befunde zu sichten, werden zunächst Ansätze der Demokratiemessung zu diesem ‚Akteur‘ analysiert. Weiterführend wird die Forschung zur Konsolidierung der Demokratie einbezogen, und die Konzepte innovativer Partizipation in Demokratien werden aufgegriffen. Auf diese Weise soll systematisch die Relevanz der Zivilgesellschaft bzw. spezifischer Ausprägungen der Zivilgesellschaft für die Qualität der Demokratie untersucht werden. Der Text schließt mit Reflexionen über den Beitrag der Zivilgesellschaft zur Vertiefung der Demokratie.
