Zusammenfassung
Mit dem Aufkommen der Computeranimation war neben der SIGGRAPH die Ars Electronica eine der wichtigsten Plattformen für digitale Animation in den 1980er und 1990er Jahren. Das Medienfestival Ars Electronica widmet sich seit 1979 der Computerkultur und -kunst und im Speziellen auch der künstlerischen Computeranimation. 1987 wird das Festival durch den weltweit ausgeschriebenen Medienkunstwettbewerb Prix Ars Electronica erweitert, einen der ersten seiner Art.
