Zusammenfassung
Since the 1980s, the main European capital cities have been spatially and socio-culturally transformed by different migration waves, increasingly large and heterogeneous; becoming centres of arrival for thousands of immigrants attracted by the economic opportunities, resources and diversity. For this reason, in the political sphere, although in most countries integration policies are elaborated at the national level, their implementation and in many cases their formulation has moved to the local level, understanding this as the most suitable political space in which to encounter the challenges of integration. Despite political decentralisation, local leadership is still subject to the demands of national and regional powers when formulating their political perspectives on integration to guarantee inclusion and participation for immigrant groups and society in general.
