Zusammenfassung
Die Bedeutung von Geschichten in Videospielen wurde in den ersten Jahren der Game Studies zu Beginn der 2000er Jahre kontrovers diskutiert. Benötigen Videospiele überhaupt eine klassische Erzählung oder erscheint diese angesichts der spielerischen Herausforderungen nicht sekundär? Welche neuen Möglichkeiten ergeben sich, wenn wie im Rollenspiel-Genre die erlebte Story selbst zum performativen Element der Spielhandlung wird? Videospiele stellen nicht nur die Narratologie, sondern auch die Filmwissenschaft und Medienästhetik vor eine neue produktive Herausforderung.
